I can see the pack of deer before she does, then… she spots them prancincg through the woods.
There it is..the TAKE OFF. That carnal animalistic instinctive launch, the purest “fight or flight” only expereinced in the wild.
But then, she stops, looks back at me as if to say “Really?? I can go?” I laugh inside and shake my head, thinking “Sure Cleo, go ahead and catch them, I’ll see you in 3 seconds”.
“That is happiness; to be dissolved into something complete and great. When it comes to one, it comes as naturally as sleep.”
~Willa Cather
And this is how I feel when I run, as natural as sleep. It all lies in that “swing” phase of the gait cycle, when, just for a SPLIT second, BOTH feet are in the air, and there you are…suspended, and literally, FLYING…liberated..
FREE.
And this cycle continues rhythmically, over and over …and over ….again. This intoxicating feeling of floating in the air, feeling immortal, even for just a minuscule moment. This is the “hit” that keeps this junkie coming back for more. And she also knows it too.
Because that is love, set it free, she always comes back to me…

Folks don’t be afraid to chase those deer, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. GO.FOR.IT. Whatever “it” is, scary, exciting, heartbreaking, exhilirating. If you listen closely and your instincts are telling you to, then CHASE.AFTER.IT
All you need is love…and a magnificent pair of “Dorothy Shoes” to guide you back home. WHEREVER that may be…

Until next time my loves 🙂
