Another Sunday BLISSFUL Runday in the books. Mud so thick it threatens to suck me down into the earth, or at least, suction off one of my shoes. We slopped, slipped and spilled through this particularly gnarly trail, with a plethora of rocks and downed tress to traverse. Today was our longest run to date, and I was absolutely GASED towards the end. SHE was actually outpacing ME!! She kept looking back, as if to say “Are you coming”??? I tried to mimic the pitter patter of her tiny paws as she trotted along the trail. Unfair how easily she can navigate over all these rocks, roots and tree limbs. She RACES down to the waters edge, then RACES back up to the trail to fall right back in stride with me.
Folks often question my “love” for running. There are many who understand, but many do not, and ask “how” can I “love” to run? But to help explain this unrelenting passion, it all lies in that “swing” phase of the gait cycle, when, just for a SPLIT second, BOTH feet are in the air, and there you are…literally, FLYING…liberated..
FREE
And this cycle continues rhythmically, over and over …and over again. This intoxicating feeling of floating in the air, feeling immortal, even for just a minuscule moment…that’s the “hit” that keeps this junkie coming back for more. And I think I got her hooked too.
Just lookit that tongue just jones’n for more…
